Description

Before DA for Sailor Moon fan art, there was a massive site known as Silver Moonlight. It was the largest fan art site I recall ever encountering for Sailor Moon. It later became Obsidian Wings, where it extended into other anime.

An art contest was occasionally hosted on the site. One of the themes was to take a fairy tale and put anime characters into the roles. I actually participated in that one... I think I got an honorable mention.

My drawing was of Princess Serenity and her mother Queen Serenity sorrowfully parting before she began her journey to meet a prince she was betrothed to. In the background, hiding in the shadows was Beryl in her servant attire.

The fairy tale I chose was called "The False Bride" in my old copy of Grimm Brothers Complete Fairy Tale Collection. In other translations it is titled "The Goose Girl".

For the heck of it, I decided to try drawing that idea again, but expand upon it. Using the "mirrored" effect, I extended it to when Serenity is the true bride to when Beryl takes up form as the false bride. I did have intentions to go even farther, but it was getting a bit too complex for me at the time.

Viewers might notice Prince Endymion not looking all that interested in the "princess" he's holding in his arms. He isn't. For the most part, he likes Beryl. She is interested in him, beautiful, nice and so forth... During his time getting to know her, however... he has also stumbled upon the Goose Girl.

He finds the Goose Girl for more his type. He doesn't know why. Though he can find nothing wrong with his betrothed, he finds his mind constantly wandering back to the clumsy girl who desperately wishes to hide her hair for some reason.

Other roles, I see would be that Umino would be the goose herder. His reason for wanting to get a few strands of Serenity's hair would be for his girl, Naru. He cannot get her fine things, but seeing the golden hair... he thought he could at least offer her something similar.

Anyway, this took a freakishly long time to accomplish due to my wrist and then the detail put into outlining and putting in the other details via computer... maybe a year. I was insane doing so much detail on the hair... -__-
There is a lot of subtle differences one might not notice int he coloring, but I assure you, no white dress is the same white nor or the pinks. Various tones and hues of black were used on Endymion's clothes, not just contrasts and shades. Stuff like that. @__@

Enjoy! (Please?)

I'll have to read that fairy tale, now. Great job. The detail in the hair is exquisite.
