Reaction to a Scene from Bolt

Description

Yep, I am a cat enthusiast and all around animal lover. For some reason, this month has gotten my protective side towards animals (particularly when it comes to kittehs) up in arms.

Maybe it is the semi-recent sob story regarding a litter of kittens being tossed out of a speeding car and being ran over is part of it. Maybe it is the many times I've stumbled on videos about horrible cat abuse and deaths when unfortunately stumbling into the dark side of YouTube. Maybe it is because 2/3 of the cats we own are adopted from the streets (often under or in a garbage container) or shelters (where their mothers were euthanized).

Maybe it is because one of those aforementioned cats was almost left behind to die with her mother because she was deemed “not adoptable”, and recently had an annual vet visit that brought back traumatic memories that caused her to have a panic attack and run off should any of us approach her recently. (Breaks my freaking heart, damn it. T-T)

I hadn't watched Bolt for quite a long time since I only watch movies in far-spaced intervals. I remembered the plot, but I didn't remember all that happened during the RV park begging for food scene. Watching Bolt get into begging for food induced feelings of content fondness. Then Mittens appeared to my surprise and I couldn't help but smile at her kitty smile. The meow got me. It was a freaking adorable meow! It sent warm feelings of kitty adoration through me...

Only for those feelings to suddenly disappear into shock, concern and sadness when the guy yelled "Beat it, stupid cat!" and threw a cast iron frying pan (the very size of her) at Mittens. Then just as quickly it changed to a low simmering anger and annoyance when it comes to the bad reputation cats get in children animation movies. It reminded me of all the various cruelties and injustices committed towards cats in real life. Just because this was a happy-go-lucky movie and the characters cannot be actually harmed, movies can reflect real life occurrences.

Simply put, it makes me really frustrated and angry. Whenever I hear or read about a recent animal abuse case I often wish that it was an automatic law in nature that humans that hurt animals with truly malicious intent would get back what they did times three. It makes me wish animals had better rights – rights just as important as human ones. Mainly, I just wish dogs, cats and other animals that can be cruelly mistreated by humans could only know of safety, warmth and love; never knowing of pain and fear.

T-T I luv animals and just want them to be safe and happy... I need to cuddle a kitteh now... Grey Striped
