An independent spirit, Mulan is a girl not afraid to speak her mind and is sometimes considered feminist. Some mistake her for a tomboy, but in truth, she just wishes to be treated equally.
Her history so far in Walt Disney High School is that on her first day her schedule had a glitch. It had stuck her into boys' athletics. She was dressed in some of her more boyish clothes that day, so when she tried to tell the coach she didn't belong there, he didn't listen.
At the office there was such a swarm of schedule glitches, she didn't have the chance of getting hers looked at until a week had passed. By then the coach saw her potential to the football team.
She was strategic and came up with great game plans. It also helped that she was a fast runner and great at catching. Therefore, when she finally was able to get her schedule changed he didn't believe she was a girl and insisted she was a boy and she was staying in his class.
Mulan admittedly liked playing football and got along great with Yao, Ling and Chien-Po. Even Li Shang helped her out at times. They kept her safe from any other boys who tried to take advantage of her since the coach was determined to deny she was a girl.
Some of the boys in her class tried to get her kicked out. Principle Mickey however denied their protests and Mulan had the coach's support as well. Still to make it easier on her when on the playing field she was given the nickname "Ping" and everyone addressed her as a boy when she was in uniform. Alas, that disillusioned the coach more and he called her Ping and addressed her as a guy even outside the tournaments.
Still, she has won admiration of girls and boys in Walt Disney High School and is particularly popular. She has a crush on one of her team members since her freshman year, but he still only seems to see her as one of the guys. Maybe this year she'll open his eyes.
Her best friend is Pocahontas. They both are minorities at the school and sort of banded together. Their love of outdoor activities and sports brought them closer together. They both are fun loving and like to have sleep overs that result in pillow fights. Pocahontas found a great buddy to take along with her on sporting adventures like hiking and camping. They love theme parks and tried out all the adrenaline pumping rides. If anything Mulan found someone with the same amount of energy and spirit as her. It also helps that Pocahontas sees her as she is and does not judge her. She feels complete acceptance with the girl and sees her like an older sister.

Notes:
Ah Mulan... always depicted as a cross dresser or a tomboy... Well, while I can see her being "one of the guys", I still think she more an outspoken girl than a tomboy. She never would have looked that way if it weren't to save her father. She had no idea how to hang with guys, act like them or even keep up with them. She learned for the sake of surviving the army though.
So, in this she is still pretty girly rather than having her hair back in a ponytail or covered in a cap. None of the boyish clothing either... She is rather feminine, but not to the extent of most of the other Disney Princesses. So here she is somewhat girly yet practical.
Her profile and background came up first in my head and boy it was interesting to write.
